"Dude, what even is a Goo Goo Doll?"
"Umm...only the greatest band ever!"
That was overheard about two songs into the Goo Goo Dolls transcending set at the Calgary Stampede Roundup Music Fest. It was a quick conversation between two friends behind me, but couldn't have summed up the night any better.
The band delivered a nostalgic yet energic and thoughtful set that spanned decades full of hits. A group clearly still on the ascension of its career.
Highlights were beautful renditions of 'Name' and 'Sympathy', a perfect delivery of 'Slide' and of course, perhaps the best ending to a concert I have yet to witness, 'Iris'. It was one of those rare moments where crowd and band became one. A song so connecting and almost bespoke for our generation; one that every music fan should see live at least once. Perfect in every sense.
I think those two friends are definitely onto something.
