Canadian Romance

From the first note of 'American Romance,' it was clear the #yyc audience at Commonwealth was witnessing a rare instance of being present for the early days of a star. One of those, "I was there" moments.

Michael Marcagi, with only six songs released to date, has the presence, poise, and precision of a veteran singer-songwriter. Going into the concert, it would be easy to think it could be a quick show, but that was not the case. Masterfully traversing through his debut EP, 'American Romance,' Marcagi engaged the audience with album-quality renditions and some fun covers. A highlight of the show, however, was being invited to some new material from his upcoming 10-track album. The songs expansive and further evolving on Marcagi's ability to thread genuine emotion with the perfect sonic partnering. The audience was dedicated and engaged, and Marcagi was quick to acknowledge and appreciate the Canadian support for his music.

The pinnacle moment though, hearing 'Scared to Start' in such an intimate setting. That is something I'll remember forever. An experience that will likely never happen again, as we can expect him to be selling out larger venues the next time he steps foot north of his border.
