The RZA. From the moment the RZA took the stage to illuminate on the Wu Tang origins it was an unforgettable trip down memory lane. With expert ease, members of the Clan were introduced and the stage was theirs. It was an inventive master class in storytelling, theatrics, and of course legendary hip hop - celebrating fifty years in the making. The crowd would expect nothing less of the Wu Tang Clan and the Wu Tang Clan would expect nothing less from the Calgary crowd. #yyc history in the making.
The best part of the show, weaving in and out between the Wu Tang Clan was your rappers favourite rapper, Nas. Direct as ever, dialed in as always, Nas put on a one person clinic on how to captivate and inspire an audience. Lethal delivery effortlessly paired with thoughtful prose, Nas took hold of the Saddledome before handing it back over to the chef Raekwon and his band of Staten Island masters.
From there, the Wu Tang reclaimed the stage and ran through nothing but the best. A highlight, ODB's son, Young Dirty Bastard, not only took control of, but owned his father's parts with an excited delivery that only he could provide. The entire night backed by an incredible live band with a drummer that should be celebrated.
Nas, the Wu Tang Clan and De La Soul. They brought the ruckus, reminded us to protect our necks, and left the crowd never questioning the Illmatic and if Wu Tang is forever. It truly was a Calgary State of Mind.
